In 1986, Coco Bertin Mowa and Martin Luther Amahata Adibita, two blind people trained at the Rehabilitation Institute for the Blind in Bu\u00e9a, created COJARY. Subsequently, on August 4, 1988, the organization changed its name to CJARC (Club des Jeunes Aveugles R\u00e9habilit\u00e9s du Cameroun).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

In 1986, CJARC began its activities in Coco Bertin's room at her parents' home. It began weaving chairs. Later, following a request, activities continued on the veranda of the D\u00e9l\u00e9gation D\u00e9partementale des Affaires Sociales in the Essos district.<\/p>

1990 marks a turning point: CJARC is officially recognized by the Ministry of Administration.<\/p>

By 1991, many blind people were using the association. This became possible thanks to an \u201coperation recovery\u201d carried out in several neighborhoods to identify isolated people. At the same time, CJARC acquired a plot of land. Between 1989 and 1991, a poultry farm was built with financial support from the Swiss Federation of the Blind. In 1992, the farm began raising broiler chickens.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

  1. Martin Luther moves with his family to the Ahala farm. CJARC organizes the \u201cBlind Christmas Special\u201d, a festive meal for around 30 blind people.<\/p><\/li>

  2. Mr. Coco Bertin, General Manager of CJARC, is invited to Nigeria by the NGO Ashoka Innovators for the Public. He is selected as the organization's first Cameroonian partner, in recognition of his commitment to extending its actions to blind people living in rural areas.<\/p><\/li><\/ol>

    In 1994, CJARC built a temporary headquarters on the premises of the D\u00e9l\u00e9gation des Affaires Sociales, in the Essos district. That same year, three branches were opened: in Djomb\u00e9, Douala and Mbouda. A partnership begins with the Croisade des Aveugles de France.<\/p>

    At the same time, CJARC members and other blind people set up the ASAMC (Association Sportive des Aveugles et Malvoyants du Cameroun). Martin Luther became President and Coco Bertin took up the post of General Secretary. The Douala branch obtains temporary premises to serve as headquarters.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    In 1998, two events marked the life of CJARC.
    -First, Martin Luther and Mr. Ren\u00e9 Myn Kong take part in sporting activities organized by the International Blind Sport Association (IBSA) in Spain.
    -Next, two French volunteers, Jacky Le Moing and Carole Decaudin, join the team. Alongside Swiss board member Robby B\u00e4r, they contribute to the design and construction of the CJARC headquarters.<\/p>

    Between 1999 and March 2001, a branch was set up in Ebang. At the same time, CJARC entered into a partnership with the Dutch-based Fakkel 2000 Foundation, headed by Ren\u00e9 Myn Kong and Mrs Jonker. Thanks to this partnership, a seminar was organized to train trainers in mathematical Braille signs.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    The seminar is led by Henri Magadur, as part of our collaboration with the Blind Crusade. Following a General Meeting, the CJARC management team is reorganized. Martin Luther retains his position as General Treasurer, while Mr. Som Ligom Jean Pascal becomes General Secretary.<\/p>

    The General Manager's stay in Europe, accompanied by F\u00e9licit\u00e9 Nzoudja, brings many benefits. He underwent computer training, made numerous contacts and actively sought funding for the construction of CJARC's headquarters. As a result, a number of organizations became actively involved in the project.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    In July 2001, construction begins on CJARC's headquarters. From October 10 to 21, 2002, CJARC organizes a seminar on the use of the white cane and training in integral Braille. On this occasion, CJARC celebrates for the first time the International White Cane Day, held every October 15.<\/p>

    2003 was a landmark year for CJARC. It received the Certificate of Excellence \u201cPrix du dynamisme\u201d from Good-Will, in recognition of its exceptional dynamism and contribution to the social integration of disabled people.<\/p>

    That same year, in the presence of members of the government and diplomatic corps, Cameroon's First Lady, Chantal Biya, officially inaugurated the CJARC headquarters.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    The move marked a turning point in CJARC's activities. Requests for support from Yaound\u00e9 and the hinterland increased considerably. This dynamic reinforces the idea of creating an integrated elementary school, adapted to the specific educational needs of blind children.<\/p>

    It was against this backdrop that the Ecole Primaire Int\u00e9gr\u00e9e Louis Braille (EPILB) was created in 2004. It began with fewer than fifty pupils. Today, it caters for around 150 children, both sighted and blind.<\/p>

    The first two classes to take the Certificat d'\u00c9tudes Primaires (CEP) for the 2006\/2007 and 2007\/2008 school years achieved a 100% pass rate.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    In 2005, CJARC acquired a 736 m\u00b2 plot of land in Mbankolo. This site includes two buildings dedicated to broiler rearing. The same year, a branch was set up in Ebolowa. The club also signs a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Youth to implement the Functional Literacy Project for the Blind (PAFA).<\/p>

    Launched in 2005, the PAFA program will provide literacy training for almost 300 blind people by 2008.<\/p>

    In January 2006, a functional and organizational restructuring was implemented. This change transforms General Management into General Coordination.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

L\u2019ann\u00e9e 1990 marque un tournant : le CJARC est officiellement reconnu par le Minist\u00e8re de l\u2019Administration. D\u00e8s 1991, de nombreux non-voyants fr\u00e9quentent l\u2019association. Cela devient possible gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une \u00ab op\u00e9ration r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration \u00bb men\u00e9e dans plusieurs quartiers pour identifier les personnes isol\u00e9es. En parall\u00e8le, le CJARC acquiert un terrain. Entre 1989 et 1991, une ferme avicole y est construite avec le soutien financier de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Suisse des Aveugles. En 1992, l\u2019\u00e9levage de poulets de chair y commence. Martin Luther s\u2019installe avec sa famille \u00e0 la ferme d\u2019Ahala. Dans ce cadre, le CJARC organise le \u00ab Sp\u00e9cial No\u00ebl des Aveugles \u00bb, un repas festif r\u00e9unissant une trentaine de non-voyants. M. Coco Bertin, Directeur G\u00e9n\u00e9ral du CJARC, est invit\u00e9 au Nig\u00e9ria par l\u2019ONG Ashoka Innovators for the Public. Il est retenu comme premier Camerounais partenaire de l\u2019organisation, en reconnaissance de son engagement \u00e0 \u00e9tendre ses actions aux aveugles vivant dans les zones rurales. En 1994, le CJARC construit un si\u00e8ge provisoire dans l\u2019enceinte de la D\u00e9l\u00e9gation des Affaires Sociales, au quartier Essos. Cette m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, trois antennes voient le jour : \u00e0 Djomb\u00e9, \u00e0 Douala et \u00e0 Mbouda. Un partenariat d\u00e9bute avec la Croisade des Aveugles de France. Parall\u00e8lement, les membres du CJARC, avec d\u2019autres non-voyants, cr\u00e9ent l\u2019ASAMC (Association Sportive des Aveugles et Malvoyants du Cameroun). Martin Luther devient pr\u00e9sident et Coco Bertin occupe le poste de Secr\u00e9taire G\u00e9n\u00e9ral. L\u2019antenne de Douala obtient un local qui fait office de si\u00e8ge, \u00e0 titre provisoire. En 1998, deux \u00e9v\u00e9nements marquent la vie du CJARC.-D\u2019abord, Martin Luther et M. Ren\u00e9 Myn Kong participent en Espagne aux activit\u00e9s sportives organis\u00e9es par l\u2019International Blind Sport Association (IBSA).-Ensuite, deux b\u00e9n\u00e9voles fran\u00e7ais, Jacky Le Moing et Carole Decaudin, rejoignent l\u2019\u00e9quipe. Aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s du Suisse Robby B\u00e4r, membre du comit\u00e9 directeur, ils contribuent \u00e0 la conception du projet de construction du si\u00e8ge du CJARC. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ce partenariat, un s\u00e9minaire de formation des formateurs en signes math\u00e9matiques braille est organis\u00e9. Ce s\u00e9minaire est anim\u00e9 par Henri Magadur, dans le cadre de la collaboration avec la Croisade des Aveugles. \u00c0 l\u2019issue d\u2019une Assembl\u00e9e G\u00e9n\u00e9rale, l\u2019\u00e9quipe dirigeante du CJARC est r\u00e9organis\u00e9e. Martin Luther conserve son poste de Tr\u00e9sorier G\u00e9n\u00e9ral, tandis que M. Som Ligom Jean Pascal devient Secr\u00e9taire G\u00e9n\u00e9ral. Le s\u00e9jour du Directeur G\u00e9n\u00e9ral en Europe, accompagn\u00e9 de F\u00e9licit\u00e9 Nzoudja, apporte plusieurs b\u00e9n\u00e9fices. Il suit une formation en informatique, \u00e9tablit de nombreux contacts et recherche activement des financements pour la construction du si\u00e8ge du CJARC. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ces d\u00e9marches, plusieurs organisations s\u2019engagent concr\u00e8tement dans la r\u00e9alisation du projet. En juillet 2001, la construction du si\u00e8ge du CJARC d\u00e9bute. Du 10 au 21 octobre 2002, le CJARC organise un s\u00e9minaire sur l\u2019utilisation de la canne blanche et la formation en braille int\u00e9gral. \u00c0 cette occasion, le CJARC c\u00e9l\u00e8bre pour la premi\u00e8re fois la Journ\u00e9e Internationale de la Canne Blanche, qui se tient chaque 15 octobre. L\u2019ann\u00e9e 2003 est marquante pour le CJARC. Il re\u00e7oit le certificat de l\u2019Excellence \u00ab Prix du dynamisme \u00bb de la part de Good-Will, en reconnaissance de son exceptionnel dynamisme et de sa contribution \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9gration sociale des personnes handicap\u00e9es. La m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, en pr\u00e9sence des membres du Gouvernement et du corps diplomatique, la Premi\u00e8re Dame du Cameroun, Mme Chantal Biya, inaugure officiellement le si\u00e8ge du CJARC. Ce passage marque un tournant d\u00e9cisif pour les activit\u00e9s du CJARC. Les demandes d\u2019accompagnement, en provenance de Yaound\u00e9 et de l\u2019arri\u00e8re-pays, augmentent consid\u00e9rablement. Cette dynamique renforce l\u2019id\u00e9e de cr\u00e9er une \u00e9cole primaire int\u00e9gr\u00e9e, adapt\u00e9e aux besoins \u00e9ducatifs sp\u00e9cifiques des enfants aveugles. C\u2019est dans ce contexte que l\u2019\u00c9cole Primaire Int\u00e9gr\u00e9e Louis Braille (EPILB) voit le jour en 2004. Elle commence avec moins de cinquante \u00e9l\u00e8ves. Aujourd\u2019hui, elle accueille environ 150 enfants, qu\u2019ils soient voyants ou non voyants. Les deux premi\u00e8res promotions pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es au Certificat d\u2019\u00c9tudes Primaires (CEP) pour les ann\u00e9es scolaires 2006\/2007 et 2007\/2008 obtiennent un taux de r\u00e9ussite de 100 %.
